Recovery

Sometimes if “addicted” to anything you have to replace the habit. You could be addicted to TV, running, junk food, miserable people, the news, work, complaining, staying up too late, driving too fast, or a ton of activities. The key to this is to think of what you can replace this “addiction” with. We often don’t just get “rid of a bad habit” but have to “replace the habit”. For example if you like to stay up and eat a bunch of junk food at night, then you can tactfully place a different habit at night (when you usually eat). Over time, within 14-21 days your addiction can be replaced with a better-chosen addiction. “Recovery” as they say could then be replaced with the word “replacement”. What if we could pick GOOD ADDICTION, healthy happy things we chose to do daily and just have to do? Saying positive things, being cooperative, eating healthy, sleeping regularly, reading, saying nice things to others, taking vitamins, balancing work and play, visualizing the good stuff happening in our lives, driving carefully, being on time, planning our days for wins, spending time doing a physical activity that you love and who could forget “laughing a lot”. Next time you feel the “addiction” to something you don’t like or feel the need for “recovery” sit back, do nothing for a bit, think about you options and you will see that LAUGHTER is typically the way to go. Laughter can be addicting. You can find humor in any condition or any situation and pop yourself into a good addiction.
