Playing Position
When the cards just aren’t coming to you in a poker tournament, it can be a frustrating place to sitthough often, in its employment, position can be more important than what you are dealt. By acting on appearance at the casino, by playing aggressively from positions of power, you can often win just as many chips by act alone, rather than by showing down a powerful hand. When you are in position and it is folded around to you, on the button or 1 to 2 seats off the button, it is often correct to raise with a wide range of cards. Suited connectors, two big face cards, small pairs, etc.anything you can feel remotely comfortable putting in a a 3x to 4x size raise. Often, too, especially as blinds get higher, the content of the cards isn’t even germaneraising with any two can be enough to pick up the blinds, which will pad your stack as things move on.
These comments are true only, though, if your chip stack can afford some amount of levity. If raising 2x or 3x times the big blind commits you to a pot, then it is no longer correct to raise with any two online poker cardsyou will need a more wide range of stack so that if you raise with junk and get reraised you can safely fold the hand. In position, though, with chips to spare, the equity you get out of raising and assuming no will have a hand behind you (which is likely, given the odds) is more important than what your cards are, as often position alone will take down the pot.
