Stephen A. Schwarzman – an Inspiration for America
Stephen A. Schwarzman’s story is one of success and a willingness to work hard. A year ago Stephen Schwarzman made number fifty three on the list of America’s most wealthy, nevertheless it’s his patronage of the arts and education and his outstanding accomplishments that make him such a fascinating man. Stephen’s life has been inspirational to multitudes of people from the children of the well-heeled to the underprivilged and it serves as a reminder that everyone can be a success through hard work and persistence.
In the mid-eighties Stephen and Peter Peterson set up their company offering sound financial advice to the American investment community. With the market maturing, it has become a world leader in M & A; but be aware that Stephen did not head his own business right off the bat.
Spending many of his early years in Pennsylvania, Stephen attended school in the Abingdon school district. After graduating from high school he opted to study at the highly esteemed Yale University and was awarded his bachelor’s degree in 1969. Harvard Business School near Boston was the next step in his education, where he received his Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1972. Afterwards he became part of the investment team at Lehman Brothers. By the age of 31, he had been appointed one of their managing directors. Stephen Schwarzman supports a wide variety of educational programs as well as consulting as an assistant professor at the prestigious Yale School of Management. Beyond this, he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York, NY. In addition, he declared with pride on March 11th, 2008 that he had contributed 100,000,000 dollars to the New York Public Library to help them build new premises. In fact, the NYPL named their new extension the “Stephen A. Schwarzman Building”. Stephen is setting the standard for successful Americans – last year he was described amongst Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People on the planet in recognition of his many achievements. His mastery of the business community has certainly been nothing short of astounding, not to mention the fact that his generous support of the liberal arts and educational projects has undoubtedly inspired the business community in general. So America waits with baited breath to see what Stephen will do next. Stephen A.
