Stealing the Blinds: Pros
An old standby move of most Texas Holdem players is to attempt to steal the blinds through adept strategic maneuvering. The theory is that an advanced player can “steal the blind” by raising on the blind. The thought process behind this strategy is that most people will fold facing a large blind if they do not have anything worthwhile in their hand. They fold early and you stay in the game. If enough people fold, you end up the only player at the table.
In this ideal situation, you are able to collect the blinds from all of the players. It is not necessarily a large amount from each player, but it can add up if you are playing at a full poker table. Stealing the blinds is a nice and easy way to collect small amounts of money on a regular basis. It doesn’t have the glamour of winning a big pot, but your wallet won’t complain if you do it enough.
Stealing the blinds has been proven to work in certain situations but not all. You need an exceptional poker face to pull it off so that the other poker players don’t figure out that you are counting on them folding. If they figure that out, they may take you to the showdown just on principle.
