If you’ve begun to research reception venues, photographers, and other “high-ticket” items on your wedding to-do list, you’ve undoubtedly experienced a good case of sticker shock by now. You may find yourself thinking: “How can they get away with charging this much?!!”

It’s a fact. The wedding industry is huge, and anything with the word “wedding” attached to it is likely to mean “expensive”.

So is it feasible to hire a photographer who doesn’t necessarily focus on weddings, or a band that wouldn’t be found in your local bridal magazine? Absolutely!

To get started on this road less traveled, begin by asking recently-wed family, friends or colleagues for any good wedding leads. Perhaps they’ll know of a fabulous bakery that was less expensive than all the larger ones in the area. Or an art student who just graduated from college and is looking for work as a calligrapher. Maybe there’s a friend of a friend who’s an aspiring photographer and would be able to capture fantastic wedding photos for you on your big day.

Next, move your research online and check out the local wedding chat boards in your area at TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com. Look for posts like “Rave Reviews” and “Highly Recommended” – and be sure to also take note of any vendors that received negative reviews from other brides and grooms. Another excellent free resource is Craigslist.com. Musicians, photographers and other artists post their services regularly here in areas across the country. If you see a post that catches your eye, just send a quick email to the poster to get more information, or submit your own ad describing exactly what you’re looking for.

Finally, head to Amazon.com or your local book store and buy at least one good wedding planning book. This will be your trusty reference book and will help you know just which questions to ask, so that you can make an informed decision about a particular wedding vendor. For example, knowing the various costs that are typically associated with catering will allow you to ask for only the items you NEED, and avoid paying for anything you don’t. In fact, knowing a bit about each type of wedding service vendor – caterers, musicians, DJs, etc. – will actually help save you money no matter which vendors you talk to, “professional” or not.

With a little outside the box thinking and basic knowledge about the “biz”, you’re on your way to pulling together a fantastic wedding day that may just cost you less than you think!

A gifted cake designer can go a long way in determining the quality and the character of the wedding cake.

For one, theme weddings can be a portal to truly creative wedding cake ideas. A medieval theme wedding would warrant a cake to be laced with pearls and a golden crown. An adventure-loving couple could have a cake topped with miniature figurines of the newlyweds in a small plane or a motorcycle. A Victorian theme wedding, for that matter, could have a cake adorned with bows and Victorian roses. For an Oriental-themed wedding, a cake with two tiers topped with a vase filled with edible handmade orchid is perfect.

Also, the theme for a wedding cake could depend on one’s favorite flower, whether it is sunflower, pansy, bird-of-paradise, rose etc. A talented cake designer can replicate bridal bouquets on the cake or a garden akin to one’s yard, complete with picket fences.

Then there are seasonal themed cakes. Seasonal themes give the cake designer license to let his imagination run free. For weddings that are set for the fall season, the cake can be adorned with grapes, grape leaves and chrysanthemums. The summer-themed wedding cakes can be accentuated with bows and white daisies.

Also, there are wedding cakes based on one’s favorite jewelry. The diamond lover can have a stunning diamond themed cake, though that can be an expensive option. For the jade lover, the cake can be made to look like a stack of complex shaped jade boxes. Also, there are wedding cakes based on china patterns.

For a truly unique wedding cake, it is best to talk to the cake designer, preferably weeks before the wedding date. Though there will always be that urge to come up with that particularly outstanding design yourself, there is no harm in picking the brains of a professional who does it for a living.

We all know that one of the biggest wedding woes is to copy an idea from a wedding that has taken place before yours or have your special day copied by another. At times, people in the same environment tend to frequent the same weddings and events. In each case, the engaged couples would rather personalize their special day with something unique that will spark a lifetime of memories. Stumped on spectacular ideas? You’ve come to the right place for a solution.

This article displays five ingenious couples who used exceptional ideas in personalizing their wedding. The concepts are rare, the approach is unrepeated and the stories are real. Take a gander:

1. Take Five

An engaged couple in southern California decided to personalize their reception with their passion for the movies. The groom is a movie producer and the bride’s passion for movies is evident by her 1,000 plus collection of movies with the classic “The Notebook”, an epic love story, being one of her favorite. In their quest for the perfect wedding party gifts and wedding party favors, they opted to share their passion. Instead of using the commonplace elegant chair covers, their unusual idea was to use personalized movie director’s chairs that double as elegant lawn leisure chairs at the head table. To the wedding parties’ surprise, the chairs were personalized with each member’s name to take home as a keepsake gift. The unique wedding guest favors were adorned in an elegant package that included “The Notebook” on DVD with a personalized cover and two anytime movie tickets to a nationally renowned theatre
for a movie of the guest’s choice.

2. Just What the Doctor Ordered

A Houston couple found the medicine for love while serving their last year as resident doctors. As the medicine of love grew potent and the two announced engagement, the wedding planning soon took place. The couple brainstormed ideas that may be unrepeated and personal to the pair. They agreed on including a bit of their occupation in the mix to make the celebration intimate with a bouquet of fresh cut calla lilies in glass beakers lined with light illuminating crystals as the centerpieces.

3. The Apple of His Eye

A northern Florida groom surprised his bride, a second grade teacher, with an apple themed reception. Since the occasion was casual, the groom decided to put a spin on the party. He assembled a company to supply gourmet chocolate dipped apples that were personalized with an inscripted tag that read “Jean,
the apple of my eye”, placed engraved rulers that read “love rules” at each place setting, placed real life looking apple candles in an array of cinnamon scented potpourri as centerpieces and provided a special area for the antsy kids to bob for apples.

4. Winter Wedding in June

A ski resort in Vales is what attracts this Brazilian couple as a winter getaway. Since snow, ice and cold temperatures is rare to none in the sunny escapes of Brazil, this couple decided to bring the wintry feel to the place of paradise for their wedding. A winter themed wedding was the ‘ice’-ing on the couple’s cake with custom snow cones with numbers inside as table number settings and a package of snow flake bath soaps as winter wedding favors. They went a step further and hired a company to blow imitation snow during the first dance

5. Artistic Ambiance

After meeting at the groom’s local art showing, a Maryland couple realized they had something special in common…a love for the arts. During the course of the relationship, both parties agreed to have their wedding ceremony somewhere in the art environment. Surrounded by close friends and relatives, the couple pronounced their love amongst an array of aesthetic expositions in the local museum. The reception followed in the yard of the museum where the guests enjoyed beautiful artistic displays on gourds as keepsakes designed by the bride and
silver plated 3″ x 5″ picture frames with prints of the art work that the groom displayed during the showing where the couple first met.

You may not use any of these ideas since each is unique to a special love story, but, I bet you can come up with rare and exceptional ideas of your own. Just think. The options are endless! Your personalization can generate from where you met, celebrate things in common, something cultural, religious customs and a host of your own personal ingenuities. Just remember, creativity is key.

Most of the girls you know, for sure, have dreamt of becoming brides once when they were little girls. It is normal.

Weddings have always been depicted through the television shows, movies and novels as a great event that hints of a happy-ever-after ending to a complicated story.

What exactly are weddings?

In the Bible, in the Old Testament, weddings have been mentioned in several occasions. Usually, weddings are related to festivities and celebrations.

Throughout the written history of mankind, weddings are always referred to as sacred and solemn occasions. Weddings symbolize or takes the form of rituals or rites that make a woman a legal and bonafide ownership or possession of a man—her husband.

The symbolic union between a man and a woman becomes it. Weddings are rites that make a couple ‘a couple’ who are tasked to enjoy each other’s intimacy and have off springs.

Weddings have been viewed that way for centuries. All cultures across the globe, in different eras of mankind, have their own traditions and norms for weddings.

Thus, Jews have weddings, Hebrews also have, and so are Muslims. The idea of weddings are related to ancient perspective of territories. A woman, or wife, then, is considered a ‘territory’ of her husband. No other man should attempt to touch or lay with the territory.

Modern view

Weddings have evolved through time. Westernization have played a significant contribution to the evolution of weddings, from simple, solemn and symbolic rites in the past, to complicated, festive and almost paganistic wedding practices currently practiced.

Weddings are important social gathering in today’s modern society that culture has set is own ethics to be practiced during such occasions—the one we now call wedding etiquettes.

Wedding etiquettes are guides that dictate how people involved in weddings should act, from the bride and groom, to the entourage, to the numerous guests.

Wedding preparations should also adhere to several wedding etiquettes. From the short listing of guests to the preparation of wedding invitations. Everything is covered by wedding etiquettes.

For example, did you know that it would be a bad gesture if the soon-to-be-wed couple would not distribute wedding invites, but instead circulate e-mails or word of mouths?

According to meticulous wedding etiquettes, the practice would leave a bad taste to the mouth, and therefore should be avoided. It would suggest that guests are not treated significantly by the hosts or the couple.

Some other ethical wedding practices

Did you know that it would be impolite or unethical if the couple would not send out thank you notes or card to the guests after the wedding? Moreover, the couple is also is more expected to send out thank you notes to guests who showed up with gifts during the wedding.

The simple gesture would mean that the couple appreciated everyone’s presence in the wonderful moment. Thank you notes for gifts also mean that the couple not only appreciated the gift, but also the one who gave it, for the effort and sincere thoughtfulness.

Weddings are special occasions

They indeed are. That is why the couple’s families and the guests should share the pleasure in this wonderful and blissful moment. The union is very symbolic and interesting.

Focusing on wedding etiquettes will be more interesting. You will find that a lot of civil beliefs and practices are imbibed and integrated into the simple, yet happy occasion.

Whenever a certain day comes up to celebrate, make sure to get the person who you are celebrating with a dozen or two of roses. Flowers represent love and prosperity, and giving roses as a gift is a very kind and loving thing to do, not only will it make the other person feel good inside and so will you.

Gift giving is very important when it comes to relationships. When someone goes out of his or her way to give you a gift, how does it make you feel? That is the feeling that you can spread to others and make them feel just fabulous inside. Roses give the feeling that we just talked about when they are received as a gift. There are many different meanings to the color of roses, so if you are giving a friend some roses as a gift, you might want to skip out on the red ones and maybe go for the yellow. The yellow rose has a friendship meaning behind it. The red rose is great for the love of your life, as it has a meaning of passion and romance. You could give the gift of red roses on the upcoming day of Valentines along with a bottle of the Acceletrim diet product. If the two of you go out for a big romantic dinner you both could go to the gym the next day together and burn off some of the calories from the big dinner.

It finally happened! He asked you to marry him! You’re probably feeling excited and a little overwhelmed.

For many young women like you, today is the day you’ve dreamed of for a lifetime. All your life you’ve been told that some day someone special will ask you to marry him and that day will be the beginning of a whole new life together. You were probably told that you would get married and build a home and have children and raise a family and eventually grow old together. How very lovely it all sounds!

It is all very lovely when things are right, but there is one important issue you should consider before you make wedding plans. You need to be very sure that this man is really the right one for you. Do you really want to raise a family and grow old with this person?

I’m sure you’ve heard about the high divorce rate. You obviously don’t want your marriage to go that direction. In my work as a marriage counselor, I deal with marriage and divorce every day. Too often I deal with people who got married too quickly and didn’t realize the long-term consequences of that choice. Because of this, I want you to ask yourself some very important questions.

Remember that this decision will affect the rest of your life. If you do some real soul searching, these questions will help you determine whether this man is the right person for you or whether you need to look elsewhere.

1. Do your eyes light up when you see him? When you’re really honest with yourself, does your deepest gut feeling say “He’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with?” When you think of not having him in your life, how do you feel?

2. Do you truly love being with him and spending time with him? Remember that if he’s difficult to be with before the marriage, you can bet that he’ll be more difficult afterwards!

3. Does he exhibit honesty and integrity in his dealings with you or with other people? Is he genuinely an honest, good-hearted person? If he doesn’t have honesty and integrity now, don’t expect him to develop it after your wedding!

4. Does your partner know how to discuss his feelings? What happens if one of you gets upset about something? Can the two of you talk about being sad or hurt or angry without attacking each other?

5. Is your partner a person who’s willing to take responsibility for his own issues and willing to do some personal growth when it’s necessary? If he does something that hurts you, does he apologize? Does he tell you how he’s going to work on his personal issues so that they don’t come up over and over again?

6. Have you discussed the major important issues with each other? For example, have you discussed whether you want to have children, how you will handle joint money and finances, who does the household chores, where you will spend holidays (his parents or yours) or how often you expect to have sexual intimacy after the wedding?

7. Are you able to reach win/win conflict resolution in areas where you disagree? When there is a disagreement, how do you resolve conflict? Have you talked about seeking couple’s counseling if there are areas you don’t agree on?

If you’re starting to have second thoughts,
here are a few more crucial questions for you to consider:

8. Do you find yourself giving more than your partner does in the relationship? For example, do you give him more time, or more money, or do you comply more to his wishes in a conflict than he does yours?

9. Does it feel like you love him more than he loves you? Do you find yourself always trying to prove your value to him? Are you competing with other people or activities that seem more important to him than you?

10. Are there red flags you try to avoid facing about your partner? For example, does he always have to win an argument? Does he find a way to get out of the agreements he has made with you, instead of keeping his word? Are there times when he is gone for long periods of time that you begin to wonder where he really is or who he’s with?

The time to think about your marriage is before the wedding date, not afterwards!

If these questions bring up second thoughts about setting a wedding date, you may want to make an appointment with a good marriage counselor and talk it over with someone who’s objective and has some long-term experience with marriage issues. It’s much better to face the truth before the wedding date than it is to tear apart children and a family that has already been established, a home that you’ve both created and a life that was your dream!

Love, sex, and intimacy are essential components that great marriages require for complete stability. Real love is the spiritual aspect, sex is physical and intimacy is emotional. It would be difficult to love your spouse if you only thought about yourself. This is not real love. Selfish people often have a difficult time giving of themselves, and yet, that is what love is all about. Love is more than a feeling, it is an action, and therefore, real love takes effort and sincerity.

LOVE:

In scripture, a husband is commanded to love his wife. What do you think is going to happen if that love is not a sincere love for his wife? She will feel frustration, resentment, and anger, and she will have a very difficult time submitting herself to the man she married. When a husband does not love his wife the way God has asked him to love his wife, all sorts of problems will develop in the marriage, mainly rebelliousness, and selfish thinking.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, to make her holy, cleansing her by washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife, love himself. Ephesians 5:25-28

Husbands are commanded to love their wife for a very beautiful reason. It brings about the ideal biblical marriage that God himself designed. Marriage is a holy union, and a living symbol that needs self-sacrificing care. A husband should be willing to sacrifice everything, including himself, for his wife. He should make her well being of prime importance to him. Meaning, do whatever it takes to protect, care for, and love her, without expecting anything in return. I do not think there is a woman on this planet that if loved by their husband in this way, would fear submitting to her man if he treated her in this way!

SEX:

Sex between a man and a woman in marriage can be a totally beautiful experience when real love is felt and acted upon. The sexual relationship can be a healthy and productive when both husband and wife feel good about their designated roles and positions in the marriage.

Why do some women feel that all their husbands ever want or care about is sex? If a husband is neglecting certain areas in the marriage where a woman needs to feel like a woman and feel good about who she is, then she will feel exploited and abused by her man sexually.

A woman who feels neglected in the love department will not want to have sex with her husband. A woman, who knows that she is loved in ALL areas of marriage, will not have a hard time taking pleasure in having sex with the man she married. She will not have a difficult time initiating the lovemaking either.

This is precisely why God says for a man to love his wife as Christ does the church because if a woman rejects her husband sexually, what do you think he is going to do? That’s right, look elsewhere. So men, don’t neglect your wife in any area of the marriage, give away your love willingly, without wanting anything in return, protect, and care for your wife, and be willing to give everything up for her and she will submit to your love in every way imaginable to her.

INTIMACY:

Intimacy like love takes action to complete its purpose. Having a loving, giving, and sharing relationship with the person you married provides couples the closeness that marriage craves. The bonds of intimacy are shared on each level in marriage from romance, to sex, to areas of communication. Couples can feel intimate by sharing a simple conversation with one another.

Women who are loved and feel close to their husbands are more apt to be respectful and devoted wives. A woman who is truly loved will utilize all of her creative talents and god given abilities that she has been blessed with; her husband will never be in need of anything. So you can see how, love, sex, and intimacy are all desirable attributes for a healthy and productive marriage.

If you lack in one of the areas described above, discuss it with your spouse, find out together what you can do to bring out the attribute you are lacking and work on it together. I encourage you to see just how truly unique and special your marriage can be by loving and sharing yourself with each other on an intimate level.

Dear Children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18

Are you looking for a novel idea for a stag do for your best mate? The typical stag do these days is more than just a night out on the town. With the average age at marriage rising, today’s bride and groom – and their mates – tend to have a bit more disposable income – and a lot more reason to celebrate when one of their own decides to tie the proverbial knot. So when it’s time to give one of the crew a memorable sendoff into married life, a lot of people are opting for more than the traditional evening of lap dancing and semi-nude girls. In fact, entire stag weekends packed with fun activities are gaining in popularity. If you live in or around Nottingham, one stag do activity that you might include in a stag weekend is a rousing afternoon of paintball.

Paintball as a stag do? But of course! Paintball may have started as an afternoon with a few nutters running around with marking guns, but since its inception in the early 1980s, there have been lots of little refinements that make paintball a perfect stag do activity. Here’s a few ideas for ways to fit an energetic afternoon of paintball into your Nottingham stag weekend.

Scenario Paintball

Add a little spice to a game of paintball by making it more than a game. Instead of just playing a grownup version of Capture the Flag, let a professional tour operator set up a scenario for your stag do paintball game. Pit your pals against each other in an attempt to retrieve the kidnapped groom from the clutches of a brace of strippers who don’t want to lose him to married life – or split them into teams to infiltrate ‘enemy headquarters’ in a daring WWII spy scenario.

Tournament Paintball

Another Nottingham stag do idea is to stage a paintball tournament. Let the entire crew battle it out to name the Grand Champion – and guarantee him a place of honor in the evening festivities right alongside the groom-to-be.

Chicks ‘n’ Stags Paintball

If you’re planning a special weekend away for the entire wedding party, why not include a Chicks vs. Stags paintball game? Pit the guys against the gals in an afternoon of woodsball or speedball and play out the Battle of the Sexes in a Grand Melee on a Nottingham paintball court.

Paintball in Nottingham is just one example of a fun stag do activity that a professional tour operator can help you arrange. If you’re looking for more unique ideas for stag dos in Notthingham or any other city, contact Chillisauce.co.uk, a tour operator that specialises in unique and unusual stag nights, bachelor parties and stag weekends.

So you are getting hitched huh? Congratulations! No doubt that you are ready for the big day to be over with, meaning no more wedding decisions to dwell on. Well, you do have one important decision to take care of and that is making your mind up on some groomsmen gift ideas. Remember, these guys are your best buds. They have been with you in good times and bad. They deserve a little thank-you for standing by your side at the altar in a stifling monkey suit. Do you have any groomsmen gift ideas? If not, read on!

Groomsmen Gift Ideas Take One – A “one size fits all” kind of gift could be appropriate in the right circumstances. Perhaps your budget for the groomsmen gift ideas are limited and by buying several of the same things will get you a discount. Think of something that would appeal to all of the guys.

Do all of you enjoy fishing, camping or other great outdoor adventures? Some great groomsmen gift ideas about fishing include a special tackle box with a few choice lures in it. How about some customized coolers to keep drinks and food cold on that next trip? More groomsmen gift ideas include an engraved compass for those trips into the woods while camping or personalized folding camp chairs. Your buddies will think of you every time they rest their weary rumps in those chairs!

If your buddies enjoy beer, great groomsmen gift ideas include pilsner glasses or beer mugs. You can have them engraved with the wedding date or a short special message. Other groomsmen gift ideas along the same lines include shot glasses, beer steins, flasks or personalized engraved beer bottle openers.

Groomsmen Gift Ideas Take Two – Consider a gift that is personal, suited to their individual personalities. Is one of your buddies a sports lover? Think about some groomsmen gift ideas like a personalized engraved baseball bat or a special edition football. How about a guy’s day out with your buddies at the batting cages? Take a few pictures then present them in a personalized engraved sports picture frame.

Take into account any of your buddies’ interests or hobbies. If any of them like to travel, there are a few groomsmen gift ideas to consider. How about a personalized traveling grooming kit? Maybe a traveling bag with engraved identification tags is an option. Are there any game lovers? Some groomsmen gift ideas for the game player include a poker set with a leather carrying case or a special edition of his favorite board game like Monopoly or Risk.

Groomsmen Gift Ideas Take Three – Go with tradition. Consider some groomsmen gift ideas like cuff links or pocket watches that can be worn for the wedding ceremony and other special occasions. These can be personalized with your groomsmen’s initials. Maybe engraved key chains, lighters or koozies are better groomsmen gift ideas.

Just remember that your buddies are going to like any of the groomsmen gift ideas that you come up with. After all, you all have shared a lot of life together! By choosing something personal however, would mean the world to them and they would remember your special day for many years to come.
